Under-The-Radar Incoming Freshman Tight Ends
Today, we’ll be taking a look at some under-the-radar incoming freshman tight ends. I’m more than likely not drafting a freshman tight end in a Devy draft, unless we are talking about an extremely deep league. But these are still names worth keeping an eye on. When I’m looking at tight ends, I’m looking for a high ceiling pass-catcher. Size, frame, athletic ability, and pass-catching skills are at the top of my list. If they can block that’s nice, but I’ll worry about that after they’ve completed three years in college.

Early Impact Freshmen
Normally, this time of the year is when college football programs are gearing up for their annual Spring games. Teams are ordering their depth charts and getting their lineups in sync. But perhaps most importantly, freshmen are looking to make names for themselves and carve out early roles on teams.
Unfortunately, we won’t be seeing Spring games this year. However, that won’t stop me from projecting which incoming freshmen could see an expanded role early on and what players will make impacts during their true freshman seasons.

From an individual talent standpoint, the SEC East is in a sad state this year. When we first started doing this, there were 80-90 SEC players included in our annual publication. Sure, we’ve tightened up the requirements as a whole, and I’ve become more strict with my grades the past two years, but this year, only 12 returning players from the SEC East seemed worthy.

Devy Freshman Stock Report
With the end of the season upon us, it is time to take a look at the season as a whole and see which freshman made some huge leaps in the Devy realm. Many of these players were ranked lower, either by us or by other outlets, but looked impressive this season and took big leaps in rankings.
Fields and Lawrence Headline 2021, but Who’s Next?
Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields were first or second in any QB rankings one could find during the 2018 recruiting process. Both were highly touted 5-stars who are the best prep QBs I have ever evaluated. Their rise through the college ranks has been anticipated and projected by the @DevyWatch as both were top 3 QBs in all of college football for our annual publication before either took a college snap. I think it is a forgone conclusion that these two QBs are the premier talents in college football and likely to be the most coveted NFL prospects in the last decade at the QB position. Both should go in the top 3 picks in the 2021 NFL draft and I would say top 2 but Oregon Left Tackle Penei Sewell is in the conversation as a top pick.
