I Got Five On It (4/23)
Freshmen making a Spring impact and mailbag questions!
G5: Incoming Freshmen WRs
I dug into the 247Sports top 20 QBs to sign with a G5 school. Very few have Devy relevance at the moment, but we got some great late C2C sleepers to stash away.

Welcome to “I Got 5 On It”, each week I’ll be picking five news-worthy subjects based around college football to cover. Ranging from views on Devy prospects, general college football talk, interesting stats, and a little bit of hip-hop music mixed in now and then.

Devy Watch XXI: McDaniel
One of the best things about our team is that we have six team members to share ideas with, debate, and get a consensus ranking on players. For the third consecutive year, we decided to break the player pool into specific conferences and divisions last season, with each analyst being responsible for the same group. We believe the continuity in that evaluation is helpful and is aided by our team’s size to test our evaluations and hypotheses against. All of the incoming freshmen are randomly divided up and dispersed to each team member to evaluate. This article will provide a window into each analyst’s minds and processes, and our aim is to better inform the readers about players who had strong feelings about this cycle.

Devy Watch Volume 1: Toughest Cuts – XXI – Francis
One of the most challenging parts of creating this annual guide is trimming the list down to a manageable number of prospects. In the spirit of full disclosure, the team already has a list of players that we plan to add to our volume two guide that will publish after most teams have completed spring ball. One of the most significant difficulties we face is watching all of the freshmen that we are assigned. We will gather as much information as possible from each team’s spring practices and make some updates to the overall ranks and add players in line for substantial work this season. In this article series, each team member will outline which players were the toughest omissions we made from volume one of the ‘21 guide. (Primary evaluator)

March Mockarena: 2023 Devy Draft
There’s been a lot of talk about how deep the 2023 class is. A lot of these guys became household names in 2020, others will get their first real shot this season. We mocked out three rounds of 2023 draft eligible players so we could all get an idea of just how deep the class really is.

January Mockarena: 2021 Devy Mock Draft
As we pulled all of the 2021 rookies out of our rankings in preparation for the 2021 Devy Watch guide, we thought it would be a good idea to start landscaping the new devy scene. There’s no better way to do that than with a mock draft. Since our Devy Watch guide will be published a little later this year, you can count on the players below being somewhere in the top 100 if you draft before the tentative March 1st release date.

Devy Futures – TE Edition
In the last 2 segments of Devy Futures, I showed what the next 3 draft classes could look like to help better prepare you for the future and show you what your future picks could turn into. But what will the state of the position groups even look like in the future? Who will be the top players? Which players should you target for long-lasting success?
Well, in this special edition of Devy Futures, I will rank the players I believe will be the best players in the 2025 season. These aren’t dynasty rankings per se, but it is safe to say that the players who are deemed the best in 2025 will have shown high-level success over the next 5 seasons and players I believe you should be targeting now.
We have hit QB, RB, and WR, so let’s finish things off with the TE spot!
Scouting Report: Justin Robinson, WR, Georgia
What if I told you that Georgia had another WR who was as freaky at the catch point as George Pickens…is that something you would be interested in?

LSU TE Arik Gilbert Opted Out. What’s Next?
LSU’s stud freshman TE Arik Gilbert followed other former 5-star pass catchers at LSU and officially opted out of the 2020 season yesterday. He was the 2019 National Gatorade Player of the Year and the highest-rated TE prospect ever, according to 247sports.
Gilbert caught 35 balls for 368 yards and two touchdowns this season at LSU. Let’s compare Gilbert’s shortened, SEC-only freshman season to the freshman season of these other recent first-round tight ends.
