Commitments

Haynes King commits to Texas A&M
QB, 6’2”, 189lbs, 247Sports Composite 4*, Longview, Texas

King selected the Aggies over Auburn, Duke, and Tennessee. He’s rated as the 4th best Dual-Threat QB in the nation according to 247Sports. As a junior in 2018, he completed nearly 70% of his passes for over 3,800 yards and 42 TDs to just 4 INTs. On top of that, he ran for 664 yards on 8.6 yards per carry. While at the Opening a few weeks back, he clocked a 4.52 40-yard dash and a 4.02 short shuttle. King displays great athleticism on the field and possesses the skills to be a dynamic playmaker with his legs in college. Shows good arm strength and accuracy. Will need to bulk up before playing full-time, has a very lean frame due to playing basketball in high school as well.

Kole Taylor commits to LSU
TE, 6’7”, 228lbs, 247Sports Composite 3*, Grand Junction, Colorado

The Tigers went outside of their traditionally southern recruiting roots and landed a pass-catching TE out of Colorado. Taylor committed to LSU over Colorado, Penn State, and Washington. He’s rated as the 10th best TE by 247 Composite rankings. In 11 games as a junior, he caught 29/510/8. Taylor is a tall lanky TE that flexes out wide regularly. He uses his height to his advantage to defeat defenders. Runs crisps routes and gets off the line of scrimmage quickly. Isn’t asked to do a lot of blocking in high school, improvement will be needed before seeing the field. Taylor appears to be one more piece in LSU’s attempt to run a revamped offense. The Tigers already have a tremendous haul at the WR position. Now, they’ve added a legit pass-catching threat at TE.

Spotlight: Khi Mathieu

With a slow week in commits, I look to spotlight an under the radar recruit. Khi Mathieu from New Orleans, Louisiana, is the cousin of former LSU Tiger Tyrann Mathieu. He committed to Memphis over offers from Kentucky and Tennessee. He’s currently ranked outside of 247’s Composite top 700 players. As a junior at St. Augustine High School, he only caught 18 passes for 406 yards and 4 touchdowns. At the high school level, he is a legit deep threat, averaging over 22 yards per catch. He has good speed and burst can develop into a good vertical threat for Memphis. Despite his size, he can out-leap defenders and win 50/50 balls. Time in a college weight room will do Mathieu some wonders. I believe he has a ton of untapped potential that can blossom after gaining strength and improving his athleticism.
