Welcome to “I Got 5 On It”, each week I’ll be picking five news-worthy subjects based around college football to cover. Ranging from views on Devy prospects, general college football talk, interesting stats, and a little bit of hip-hop music (mostly 90s rap).
1. Top QB Performers
@FBGChase has done a lot of great work on twitter with ANY/A with NFL passers. That gave me the idea of using this stat to gage college passers each week. If you are unaware of this stat let Pro-Football-Reference.Com explain. ANY/A – adjusted net yards per passing attempt: (pass yards + 20*(pass TD) – 45*(interceptions thrown) – sack yards)/(passing attempts + sacks). See AY/A.. This stat doesn’t take into account any rushing plays, just purely dropbacks.
Here are the top 10 performers from week 6 of the CFB season out of 60 qualifying QBs.
7 out of the top 10 performances came from SEC QBs, including the top three performers on the day. This isn’t your dad’s SEC anymore. Connor Bazelak shredded LSU for the fourth best performance of the whole season. The Tigers defense has given up two of the biggest showings on the year. Mac Jones continues his heater, he now has two out of the top six showings on the year, from the last two Alabama games. Jones facing off against the Georgia defense is a must watch this weekend. After two subpar showings, Sam Howell slides into the 10th slot from this past weekend. Georgia Tech tFR QB, Jeff Sims, had his best showing of the year coming in at 11th on the week. He’s had a tough go of it in this metric all season prior to the Louisville game. On the opposite end of the scale Sam Ehlinger, D’Eriq King, and KJ Costello had three out of the four worse showings of week 6. Costello now has two of the four worst showings in the entire season (out of 272 QB performances with at least 10 passing attempts in a single game). The SEC might have the Leach offense figured out already, after LSUs showed the rest of the league what not to do.
2. Grayson McCall
The Coastal Carolina rFR QB, has made quite the impression through four games. McCall just helped Coastal pull off their first ever victory against a top 25 team in Louisiana. McCall was just the 80th rated dual-threat QB in his recruiting class. His only other FBS offer was from Army, It would have been a blast to see McCall at Army. Giving them their first true throwing threat in decades. McCall saw limited action as a tFR in 2019 for Coastal, playing in just two ball games. Prior to Wednesday night’s game against Louisiana, McCall was third in the nation in ANY/A only behind Mac Jones and Zach Wilson. The rFR is listed at 6’3” and 200lbs, he appears to have legit NFL size. He still has a few years to bulk up his upper body. McCall is an above-average threat with his legs, he’s tallied almost 200 yards and 3 TDs after four games. I still have a few questions about his arm strength but McCall looks like a legit name to monitor moving forward. He still has a lot of time and development needed before we start discussion about McCall fighting for a top 3 round NFL Draft capital.
3. Jameson Williams
The Big 10 finally kicks off next week. One name that’s been getting a lot of buzz from Ohio State press conferences is Jameson Williams.
Brian Hartline said Jameson Williams is developing as a route runner and focusing on all the things that don’t involve his elite speed. Said he’s working as if he didn’t have elite speed.
“If you’re able to embody that approach, a really special player can come out of that.”
Williams is a tSO that saw action in all 14 of the Buckeyes game last season but only netted 6 receptions. The St. Louis native was a top 150 recruit and caught 68/1626/22 as a high school senior. Williams will be competing for the last starting spot outside of Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson. Williams brings a big play threat to an already explosive receiving core and offense. Williams is one of the fastest players on the entire team. Snagging a starting spot will be very difficult. Nobody has brought in more receiving talent over the last two years than the Buckeyes.
4. Kyren Williams
I’ve been a big fan of Williams since I saw his JR high school film and he’s exceeded my expectations. His ability to fight through tackles and to run with borderline elite contact balance has been a delight to see. Over three games, there have been numerous rushing attempts that it appears the play is over due to the contact, but Williams is able to find his balance and continue trucking down the field. Williams is a handful to take down in open space, he made some Seminoles defenders look silly in their ability to take him down. One area that I’m surprised hasn’t taken off is his pass-catching ability. He was an elite pass-catcher in high school, to the point I thought he could transition to slot receiver if needed. He’s had some drop issues last season and this season. If Williams can iron out his hands, he has the potential to develop into a top option in the 2022 RB class. Williams has a stocky build but I would still like to see him get over the 200-205lbs.

5. I Got 5 On It
BYU (-5): Passing game has been elite, top of the heap in passing efficiency. The defense has been good against defending the pass as well. BYU might be the best G5 behind Cincinnati.
SMU (-6.5): I’ll gladly take SMU to only to have to cover a TD on Tulane. Already got my BYU and SMU parlay to cover on for Friday night.
Pittsburgh (+13.5): The Hurricanes aren’t a team over the years that I would call tough minded. I expect a bit of a let down after Clemson ripped that offenses soul out of their body. Kenny Pickett already has one upset victory over Miami on his resume. The Panthers will keep this one close, I expect a Miami victory in the 7-10 point range.
Notre Dame (-17): This one could get ugly. The UofL defense has been very prone to give up explosive plays and the Irish boost one of the best OLs in the nation and two good backs. I expect the Irish to just run the ball down their thought much like they’ve done against USF and Florida State.
Ole Miss (-1.5): I love what I’ve seen from the Kiffin and Corral combination. The defense is another story. While the Razorbacks will put up some points, I fully expect the duo of Kiffin and Corral to just put up enough points to cover this one.
