Introducing a new series here at Devy Watch where one of our team members throws out a statement and someone else gives their opinion on whether the statement is fact or fiction. This series will definitely be college football/recruiting/Devy/CFF related, but we aren’t afraid to pull from Twitter, so be careful tweeting those hot taeks.

  1. Trey Lance should play in North Dakota State’s one-game showcase on October 3rd versus Central Arkansas with either a full spring season or the NFL Draft looming.

@DW_BMack says: FICTION. There is no way Trey Lance, or anyone else, should play in a one-game showcase in October when nothing good can come from it. There are rumors flying around that there is negativity surrounding this game because it’s all about one player. The game wasn’t important enough in the grand scheme of things to get a TV spot. So Lance is playing in this game for NFL scouts? Is there anything he can put on film with another 20 pass attempts that he hasn’t shown in his first 257? Speaking of that, I’m firmly in the Trey Lance needs another full season before going pro camp. There probably aren’t many tents in this camp, but personally, I’m not spending a first round pick on a QB who has only thrown 257 passes against FCS competition. I’m simplifying this for the sake of this article, but the only things that can come from this are negatives – his first collegiate interception, his first collegiate loss, or God forbid, an injury.

  1. Kyle Pitts will be a Top-10 NFL draft pick.

@DW_Clayton: FACT. After arguably the most dominant tight end performance in college football history vs Ole Miss last Saturday, the Twitterverse was filled with essentially nothing but the words “Kyle Pitts” and flame emojis. For those who somehow may have missed it, Pitts went nuclear for an 8-170-4 TD line. As Florida QB Kyle Trask’s ultimate binky, Pitts is going to garner a terrific target share this season in the ever-increasingly pass-happy SEC. An incredible final season production profile paired with upper-echelon athleticism for the position is the exact recipe for an early 1st round NFL draft pick at TE. Factor in the name brand school recognition and national TV bias with Florida poised to be in high profile matchups as a Top-10 team, and, well, that’s just icing on the cake. Lock it in. Kyle Pitts, Top-10 NFL Draft Pick in 2021.
