Since everyone has played seven or eight games now, I decided to check in on our college football team draft from back in late August. Boy, were we wrong about a lot. As a reminder, here are our rosters:

Greg: Ohio State, Oregon, North Carolina, Texas A&M, Coastal Carolina, Penn State, Louisiana, Washington
Brad: Clemson, Oklahoma, Cincinnati, Iowa State, Wisconsin, Miami, UCF, Iowa
Kyle: Alabama, Georgia, Florida, LSU, Utah, USC, Boise State, Marshall

We haven’t gotten into any big points yet, but the scoreboard looks like this:

Greg 45
Brad 43
Kyle 38

All things considered, it’s close, but Clemson, Washington, Boise State, Miami, and USC are killing us. Louisiana and Iowa have been great late values so far.

Greg’s 3 head-to-head wins are the difference in the scoring right now. He has 2 over Brad (Penn State over Wisconsin and UNC over Miami) and 1 over Kyle (A&M over Bama).
Brad has 1 head-to-head win over Kyle (UCF over Boise State) and 1 over Greg (Iowa over Penn State).
Kyle has 2 head-to-head wins over Brad (Bama over Miami and Georgia over Clemson).

Greg took Ohio State first overall because of their path to a conference title and CFP appearance. The road looks to be a little tougher than he anticipated, but everything is still there in front of the Buckeyes.

I couldn’t have been more wrong about Clemson, and Miami was a pipe dream. Oklahoma is still in the hunt for big points, and it looks like I’m going to have to start rooting for Cincy to play Cinderella.

Kyle’s analysis of his draft started with “I took Alabama and Georgia with my first two picks, two teams that I believe are most likely to battle for the SEC championship and a berth (or two) in the CFP” and ended with “I don’t think I did great on this draft.” From where I’m sitting, having the two most dominant P5 teams will probably be the determining factor down the stretch.

I might update this again if we have a clearer picture unfold down the stretch. Otherwise, we’ll check back conference championship week.
