Draft season is upon us ladies and gentlemen! With the NFL Draft less than a month away, I thought it would be a good time to drop a full 7 round mock; with trades! But this year, I wanted to do it a bit differently. Instead of your basic 7 round mock where you scroll through pages of picks and find your team’s selections with relatively no commentary, I decided to break the mock-up and do an article on each individual team’s haul! Giving you a breakdown of what each team brought in and how I think it could help. So without further adieu, let’s kick things off!

With the 7th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots select…

  • Mac Jones, QB, Alabama- TRADE with Detroit(1st round)
  • Jamin Davis, LB, Kentucky(2nd round)
  • Nico Collins, WR, Michigan(3rd round)
  • Robert Rochell, CB, Central Arkansas(4th round)
  • Tamarrion Terry, WR, FSU(4th round)
  • Osa Odighizuwa, DT, UCLA(5th round)
  • Joshuah Bledsoe, S, Missouri(6th round)
  • Rhamondre Stevenson, RB, Oklahoma(6th round)
  • Tay Gowan, CB, UCF(7th round)

TRADE ALERT!! The New England Patriots jump 8 spots to snag their QB of the future! They send pick #15, pick #120, a future 1st, and a future 2nd to the Lions for pick #7. Some may think the Pats would never do this, but I personally think they loaded up in free agency to potentially make a move of this caliber. So let’s dive into their draft haul!

The Pats grab their QB of the future right off the bat! Opinions on Mac Jones are all over the map, but I love what he brings to the table. He is perfect for what Josh McDaniels likes to do with his offense. He can make all the reads, can make any throw, and has good accuracy. He can help get this offense back to where it once was. They also add two new WRs to their WR core. I am not a huge fan of the WRs they brought in during the offseason and think they will continue to look for more. Collins is a big-bodied WR with very good hands and can get over on the defense. Terry is one of my favorite WRs in this class but had some issues that ended his time at FSU early. Nevertheless, Terry is a freak athlete that runs good routes, has excellent hands, and is dangerous with the ball in his hands. He could potentially be a WR1 for this team for some time!

On the defensive side of the ball, the Pats snag fast-rising LB Jamin Davis who can be the leader of the pack for their defense. They go on to add a big, lengthy, athletic corner in Robert Rochell. Rochell is the type of corner that can play opposite Gilmore and give defenses fits. One of my favorite picks of theirs is Osa Odighizuwa, DT from UCLA. Osa is a very athletic DT that has the athleticism to get after the QB and the ability to plug holes in the run game. He has a ton of upside and could be a staple of this defense for some time.

Overall, the Pats do a very good job in this draft. They add their QB of the future in Mac Jones and give him some weapons. They also add some talented defensive players to help elevate this defense to being one of the best in the league. This offseason has been great in terms of getting the Pats back into contention.
