Draft season is upon us, ladies and gentlemen! With the NFL Draft less than a month away, I thought it would be a good time to drop a full 7 round mock; with trades! But this year, I wanted to do it a bit differently. Instead of your basic 7 round mock where you scroll through pages of picks and find your team’s selections with relatively no commentary, I decided to break the mock-up and do an article on each individual team’s haul to give you a breakdown of what each team brought in and how I think it could help. So without further adieu, let’s kick things off!

With the 1st pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars select…

  • Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson(round 1)
  • Christian Barmore, DT, Alabama(round 1)
  • Pat Freiermuth, TE, Penn St(round 2)
  • Terrace Marshall Jr, WR, LSU(round 2)
  • Jevon Holland, S, Oregon(round 3)
  • Chuba Hubbard, RB, Oklahoma St(round 4)
  • Whop Philyor, WR, Indiana(round 4)
  • Payton Turner, DE, Houston(round 5)
  • Calvin Ashley, OL, Florida A&M(round 5)
  • William Bradley-King, DE, Baylor(round 7)

It is safe to say, the Jags had one of my favorite drafts! They loaded up on talent partly because they had 7 picks in the first 4 rounds but also because they get the top player in the draft; Trevor Lawrence.

Lawrence is a game-changer for any team and the Jags finally get the QB that can lead them for the next 10+ years. I won’t spend too much time on Lawrence since we all know the deal. This kid can do it all. He has arm talent for days, the intelligence to run any offense, and checks off every box. I am confident that with a little added talent, he can lead this team back to the playoffs.

The next step, give Lawrence more weapons and they did just that! They added a talented TE in Freiermuth and one of my favorite WRs in Terrace Marshall. Both guys have the ability to do a ton of different things in the passing game and can make an impact on day 1. When you add these two to the talented group of Chark, Jones, and Shenault, this offense could explode in 2021! In the 4th round, the Jags added more firepower to this offense. Chuba Hubbard had an impressive college career and is a do-it-all type of back with plenty of explosiveness and the same could be said for Whop Philyor. Both guys could prove to be added depth to a talented group but if either hits their potential, they could see a prominent role in this offense.

Next the defense! In the first round, they grab Christian Barmore; a disruptive defender in the middle. Barmore has the ability to push the pocket back, eat up blockers, and stuff the run. He will open up a ton of things for other defenders while also making plays himself. They also add a very talented safety in Jevon Holland out of Oregon. Holland can fly around the field and seems to have a nose for the football. These two can be staples of the Jags defense moving forward and help elevate the group.

Lastly, the Jags find good depth along the offensive line in Calvin Ashley as well as edge depth in Turner and Bradley-King.

The Jags load up on talent all over the field and, in my opinion, made moves to immediately elevate the offense. With the talent, they already have, the talent they drafted, and Lawrence at the helm, the Jags could be a scary offense within the next few seasons.
