Draft season is upon us ladies and gentlemen! With the NFL Draft less than a month away, I thought it would be a good time to drop a full 7 round mock; with trades! But this year, I wanted to do it a bit differently. Instead of your basic 7 round mock where you scroll through pages of picks and find your team’s selections with relatively no commentary, I decided to break the mock up and do an article on each individual team’s haul! Giving you a breakdown of what each team brought in and how I think it could help. So without further adieu, let’s kick things off!
With the 21st pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Indianapolis Colts select…
- Jalen Mayfield, OT, Michigan(1st round)
- Amon-Ra St. Brown, WR, USC(2nd round)
- Kary Vincent Jr, CB, LSU(4th round)
- Hamilcar Rashed Jr, DE, Oregon St(5th round)
- Monty Rice, LB, Georgia(6th round)
- Tedarrell Slaton, DT, Florida(7th round)
The Colts are another playoff team with a ton of talent but also find themselves with some glaring needs going into the offseason. They believe they have filled their QB need by trading for Carson Wentz which allows them to focus on other areas and finding the best talent possible.
With their first pick, they take Jalen Mayfield, an offensive tackle from Michigan. Maybe their biggest need was replacing Anthony Castonzo and I believe drafting Mayfield will do just that. He is a great addition to an already talented line. In the 2nd round, they give a huge boost to their receiver group by grabbing Amon-Ra St Brown. ASB is a versatile and explosive receiver that can help open things up and get open for Wentz.
When it comes to the defensive side of the ball, they grab a handful of players with athleticism and upside. Kary Vincent is an athletic corner that has a nose for the football. Hamilcar Rashed is a very athletic linebacker that can be an edge rusher or a traditional LB. His versatility will be a huge addition to this defense. Monty Rice and Tadarrell Slaton are also two defenders that can provide depth at key positions.
Overall, the Colts add a ton of talent to their team especially on the offensive side of the ball. They grab a tackle that can anchor their line for many years to come as well as an explosive and versatile receiver to help take their offense to the next level.
