Draft season is upon us ladies and gentlemen! With the NFL Draft less than a month away, I thought it would be a good time to drop a full 7 round mock; with trades! But this year, I wanted to do it a bit differently. Instead of your basic 7 round mock where you scroll through pages of picks and find your team’s selections with relatively no commentary, I decided to break the mock up and do an article on each individual team’s haul! Giving you a breakdown of what each team brought in and how I think it could help. So without further adieu, let’s kick things off!

With the 31st pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select…

  • Samuel Cosmi, OT, Texas(1st round)
  • Elijah Moore, WR, Ole Miss(2nd round)
  • Baron Browning, LB, Ohio St(3rd round)
  • Kendrick Green, OL, Illinois(4th round)
  • Milton Williams, DT, Louisiana Tech(4th round)
  • Robert Hainsey, OT, Notre Dame(5th round)
  • Demetric Felton, WR, UCLA(5th round)
  • Josh Pederson, TE, Louisiana-Monroe(6th round)

The Chiefs are in a unique position where even though they have back-to-back Superbowl appearances, they have some specific needs to help get them back to that point.

Perhaps their biggest area of need they address with their first pick by taking Samuel Cosmi, OT out of Texas. Cosmi is a big, powerful tackle that is great in pass protection, knows how to find/pick up blitzers, and has the athleticism to get out and block downfield if needed. He is the type of player that can protect Mahomes’ blindside for the next decade. In the 2nd round, they snag an explosive, twitched up receiver in Elijah Moore. Moore is an excellent route runner that can get open early with good hands and speed. He will be an excellent weapon to add to the legion of zoom. Further in the draft, they add more offensive line depth, another receiver/weapon, and an under-the-radar TE that I really like. Josh Pederson is an athletic TE that can do a lot of what the Chiefs want from the position plus, as the son of former OC Doug Pederson, has ties to the coaching staff. Pederson can watch and learn from Kelce and eventually take over.

On defense, they add Baron Browning in the 3rd round. A versatile linebacker that is good in coverage and can fly around the field to make tackles. He has the instincts the Chiefs need and the ability to read and react quickly. They also draft Milton Williams, a quick and powerful defensive tackle that can penetrate the offensive line and get after the QB.

Overall, the Chiefs do a good job of addressing their needs along the offensive line as well as adding more weapons to this already scary offense. They also snag some defenders with tremendous upside to help bolster that side of the ball.
