Early NFL Draft Rankings: TE

The 2020 Draft is long gone, but draft season never ends for most football fans! With the college football season looming, the NFL season getting ramped up, I thought it would be good to take a look at the top prospects at each position that will be eligible for the 2021 draft! I hit the QB, RB, and WR positions and now to wrap things up with tight ends!

1. Kyle Pitts, Florida

Kyle Pitts is one of the more athletically gifted TEs I have watched in recent years. He is listed at 6’6” 240lbs and moves like a WR. Pitts is explosive off the line of scrimmage making it tough for linebackers to match up against him and he has incredible length making it difficult for safeties to cover him. He is very strong at the catch point and can win on almost any 50/50 ball. He is also a solid route runner for a TE. He does a great job setting up defenders and gets out of his breaks quickly. Pitts led Florida in receptions and nearly led the team in yards; something I expect him to do in 2020 and be a potential first rounder.

2. Pat Freiermuth, Penn State

Pat Freiermuth gets a ton of Gronk comps, and rightfully so! Freiermuth is a big-bodied TE listed at 6’5 260lbs and moves very well for a player his size. He has very strong hands and is a monster at the catch point or in 50/50 situations. He does a great job of using his body and strength to wall off defenders and makes plays on the football. He is also an outstanding blocker which will lead to him being on the field even during typical running situations. Last season, Freiermuth was second on the team in receiving and could end up being the main target on offense after some departures in the WR core.

3. Brevin Jordan, Miami

Brevin Jordan is another freakishly athletic TE that moves around like a WR. He is very explosive off the line of scrimmage and has the long speed to beat most linebackers in coverage. He is very good with the ball in his hands making defenders miss and has the strength to break tackles or run through defenders. Jordan does a fantastic job of tracking the ball in the air and making body adjustments to go up and make a play on the ball. Jordan was second on the team in receiving and could very well lead the team in 2020 after losing some of their wideouts.

4. Josh Pederson, UL Monroe

Josh Pederson is way under-the-radar as a prospect but is someone we all need to know. After a quiet first two seasons, Pederson burst onto the scene with a productive 2019 season, leading the team in receiving TDs, and was second in receptions and yards. Pederson is very strong at the catch point with strong hands and the ability to battle defenders in contested catch situations. He has solid speed allowing him to break off big gains after the catch. Pederson was in the Transfer Portal at one point, but it appears he will be heading back to ULM and I expect him to continue to improve his production and potentially be one of the top TEs in the draft.

5. Jake Ferguson, Wisconsin

Jake Ferguson has been one of my favorite TEs for a few seasons now. I wrote about him in my breakout article, check it out!

6. Jeremy Ruckert, Ohio State

7. Tre’ McKitty, Georgia

8. Brant Kuithe, Utah

9. Charlie Kolar, Iowa State

10. Kylen Granson, SMU
