conspectus

\ kən-ˈspek-təs \

noun

1: a usually brief survey or summary (as of an extensive subject) often providing an overall view

Each week, Greg Brandt and/or Brad McDaniel will write a conspectus from the week of football that was.

Cole McDonald’s Up & Down Night:

Hawaii pulled off the upset of the Arizona Wildcats late Saturday night. McDonald completed 71% of his passes for 378 yards and 4 TDs. That’s the positive, he also tossed four interceptions and was benched in the second half of the game for Chevan Cordeiro. McDonald tossed some absolutely beautiful passes in the first half of the game to Cedric Byrd and Jojo Ward but also had a lot of mental lapses on bad throws. McDonald has a ton of skill and potential but will have to learn ball security if he wants to have an NFL future.

Khalil Tate Find His 2017 Form?

Tate began his career by rushing for over 100 yards in six straight games including three games over 200 rushing yards, then 2018 came. His biggest rushing performance was 46 yards against rival Arizona State. Saturday night against Hawaii, Tate rushed for 108 yards on 13 attempts. The most that he’s rushed for since November 11, 2017. Tate was able to throw for 361 yards against the porous Hawaii defense as well. If Tate can keep up this rushing production for the season he’ll be a weekly CFF matchup winner.

The Year of the True Freshman QB Continues:

True freshmen Bo Nix (Auburn), Jayden Daniel (Arizona State), Sam Howell (UNC), and now Hank Bachmeier at Boise State have all been announced as starters. Rated as the 6th best Pro-Style QB in his class, Bachmeier was the top-rated recruit in the Broncos’ class. The true freshman QB will face off against Florida State opening weekend.
